A great return to Gotham Focusing on all the ancillary characters in Batman’s city.

This is one of the best comics I have read in a long time. The art was great. I really liked J.Calafiore's art is what drew me into comics…superheroes. The star of collecting (an issue here or there) when I was very young was Star Wars and Batman. The DC universe has been with me for many years. Since Nightwing and Robin were my favorite heroes, I really liked how prominently featured they were. The art almost made me forgive DC for taking away the green in Tim Drake’s Robin costume. Each villain had another layer added to their story. Frank Tieri’s writing made me believe in the characters even more. Tieri brilliantly crammed in criminals and heroes without making it seem too contrived. I really enjoyed this and I’m going to have a hard time passing it on.

Batman Gotham Underground was an interesting change of pace for a Batman title. The villains, who normally receive a 3-4 page occasional treatment in-between Batman’s escapades, took the center stage, relegating Batman to the left-over space. It featured an assortment of criminals (often in the worst of costumes) and some of the extended bat-family. Lots of bone-crunching, blood-letting fistfights to be had between rival gangs vying for Gotham’s top spot, and risky undercover work by Bruce and Dick. Overall, it was a fun, gritty romp that led with good writing and followed up with decent art.
